IMSC SAI Workshop |
As the number of successful projects developed with SAI is growing, so is the demand from current users and potential adopters for organized instruction and support. The IMSC SAI Workshop brings together new and experienced users to learn about the latest developments of SAI, and share their experience with SAI in projects within and across various research and application domains.
The workshop is intended for (1) system designers and developers who are current or potential SAI users, (2) Decision makers who are in need of an adapted software engineering framework, and (3) potential SAI project contributors. These functional categories comprise students and faculty, as well as researchers and developers from academia and industry.
The first workshop took place in early October 2003. It was a 2-half-day tutorial, more specifically directed to students, researchers and faculty at USC, who are early or potential SAI adopters. This workshop provided an introduction to SAI spanning theoretical foundations, integrated system design, and code development using the open source middleware MFSM.
Subsequent 2-day workshops will be held at a frequency of one to three times per year, and will include tutorials and project presentation component. The tutorials, representing about half the time of the workshop, will comprise an introductory sessions on SAI and MFSM, and advanced design/programming concepts sessions. The project presentations will comprise two tracks. In the Applications track, SAI users will share their experience using SAI in their application project, from design, to implementation, to maintenance and evolution. Each project presentation will last between 20 and 30 minutes. One or two particularly interesting larger scale integration projects will be allotted 1-hour slots for special in-depth presentation. In the Tools track, SAI tool developers will present their work to other tool developers and SAI users. Specific calls for contribution will be issued in due time.
