CS571 Course Information
Course description
This course focuses on the phenomenon known as the World Wide Web (WWW
or Web). Its focus is to present many of the core technologies that the Web
is based upon. These core technologies include:
- HTML and CSS (Hypertext MarkUp Language and Cascading Style Sheets
- Client-side Programming Using JavaScript
- Server-side Programming Using PHP
- Relational databases and their access through SQL
- AJAX
In addition the course will also cover the following topics:
- Web Services: WSDL, SOAP, UDDI
- Web Security
- Related XML Technologies (XSLT, XPath)
- Other Internet Tools and Technologies: CodeIgniter, JQuery, Web 2.0 and above, etc.
Two Examinations
The exams are worth 50% of your grade. Both exams will be closed book, closed notes,
no computers.
Programming Assignments
There are four (4) programming assignments during the semester.
To receive full credit for work done, programs must be submitted by the
END of the day on the day they are due. Each programming assignments has its own criteria
used for evaluation that are specified in the assignment - see the Assignments link
Grading
The homeworks will count for 50% of your grade, the first exam for 25%
and the final exam for 25%.
I do not grade on a curve. Grades will be assigned with the grading scale given below.

| 82 - 86% | B |
| 78 - 82% | B- |
| 74 - 78% | C+ |
| 70 - 74% | C |
| 66 - 70% | C- |
| 63 - 66% | D+ |
| 60 - 63% | D |
| 57 - 60% | D- |
| below 57% is an F |
